re: Scott Van Pelt's take on Les

How many of those wins were with Saban players?
Coaching absolutely had something to do with those wins. And Miles sustained the program and then built it back up. The winning with Saban's players is a dumb argument.
But it's obvious, these last few years have been something different.

If we lose to Alabama and beat Ole Miss and Arkansas this ain't happening. Getting arse raped twice by Arkansas and belittled by Ole Miss, being a leader in penalties, being near the bottom in pass offense, not recruiting or developing a competent QB, hiring rejects to run your offense, defense & special teams and yet having the most players in the NFL points to a serious management problem. People on the outside just see a record. Real fans are tired of the same shite over and over costing us. We're tired and some are becoming apathetic which is worse. Time to take our lumps and let Les go.
This is it, people are saying its the inability to beat Alabama. Thats not it, its the total ineptness of the offense against a solid opponent. We keep hearing the same old broken record every year about how the offense will be better and they will have a good Qb but it just never happens.

Good, SVP can hire Les to be his life coach. LSU will be alright without Les, I can assure you.

Review the sec total win the past 5 seasons. It's a decline.
YEAR RECORD AP POLL
2005 11-2 (7-1 SEC) 6
2006 11-2 (6-2 SEC) 3
2007 12-2 (6-2 SEC) 1
2008 8-5 (3-5 SEC) --
2009 9-4 (5-3 SEC) 17
2010 11-2 (6-2 SEC) 8
2011 13-1 (8-0 SEC) 2
2012 10-3 (6-2 SEC) 13
2013 10-3 (5-3 SEC) 14
2014 8-5 (4-4 SEC) --
2015* 7-3 (4-3 SEC)* --
* Two games remaining in regular season

I am not taking up for Miles but I am so sick of hearing this. I am not taking sides whether Saban or Miles is the best recruiter but your statement is dumb since you are implying Miles was only successful due to Saban's recruits.
I would argue Miles was the better recruiter so you implying Miles was successful due to Saban's recruits is wrong. It boils down to who is the better head coach and I won't comment on that since the numbers of SEC Championships, National Championships, and head to head record do not lie.

It was a joke really. The most dominate team we've had was because of Chavis IMO. That 2011 defense was ridiculous. Sure Miles had something to do with that, but I give the majority of the credit to Chavis.

I did some work for you. Was it surprising? Would it surprise outsiders? I don't know your stance, so I am just curious where your thoughts were with that statement.

If GRTigers numbers are correct, and have no reason to doubt them, their really isn't much difference in the record. Interesting. In my view, wins and losses are all that matters.

I agree with SVP LES STAYS. love him

What? Backpedaling with a joke excuse that has become contrite banter through the years?
I thought Chavis was a good DC too but there were many times he would be too conservative and lose the game by playing prevent... in particular, the loss to Bama with 1:36 left and TJ Yeldon ran a screen pass to beat LSU. I am still boiling over other Chavis' calls when he was at LSU. It was either him or Les playing to lose.

Yes thanks for that information- I didn't realize that the numbers were so close. I did post CLM overall record including sec and one can see a steady decline in sec wins over the past 5 seasons

It's not a backpedal. Did you notice the emote at the end of my post? I've always enjoyed laughing at people who have said that over the years.

I agree with him. I'm as frustrated as everyone else but the more I think about this, the more I think firing him is a really bad idea.
I know this is not the popular feeling right now but I don't know.
Just very torn with the whole thing.

I didn't either. Just seeing if we were tracking.

Yep, I had hopes that a bounce back at Ole Miss and a win against Aggy and in the bowl game would have signified some light at the end of the tunnel, but that may have only muddied the waters more if the machine was working before the Ole Miss game was even played, which from what I've heard, it was. I would have hated the backlash publicly against LSU if Miles was fired after going 6-2 in conference, 9(10)-2 overall in his firing year. I would have probably been firmly against it at that point.

I've been with you over the last year or so with taking up for Les. Not because I've been so pro Les, but because the arguments against him have been asinine. But I'm ready for a change. Eventually, there needs to be a change. It's time to move on.

Scott Van loves Miles
but it's not about just beating Saban. Chalking it up to that is beyond naive. Seriously, they aren't paying attention.
LSU has 2 bowl wins in 6 years. That is just disgusting.
5 losses last season, 3 and counting this year, blow out losses in 3 straight games.. penalties galore, unprepared teams.. no adjustments..

Agreed. The last 3 games have been tough to watch and regardless of the score - they haven't been that close.
The second half of bama game, and entire last 2 games I felt like I was watching C. Hallman football.

anomolies, in my book
Like Coker at Miami
Miles was forced to turn to a QB that he really wanted no part of. The kid saved his job
Left up to Miles, JJ loses the Tenn & Fla games of 2010, and Miles is not around to be forced to start JL in 2011. And it was pressure from the top that forced him to sit JJ as long as he did, otherwise Miles gives a short suspension, and JJ goes on to lose his avg 3 to 4 games in 2011
