Why pre-season and early season rankings matter.

It's a gauge of what a team is perceived to be at that moment in time. Pre season is very debatable, but it matters bc the dynamics of a team change with significant losses.
I rarely go to the tiger rant.... Mostly in content just to lurk here. But I've been interested in the Les Miles sagaand been reading threads there. Poster after poster has mentioned how this team changed aafter the Bama game.
Was LSU truly the #2 team in the nation? Maybe not. But I have little doubt but that they would have jumped to #1 had they beaten Bama. They would be playing with purpose and probably not lost 2 more games as well.
A loss can be devastating. In rare teams it inspires (2008 Florida and 2011 Bama). But to simply say LSU is not truly a top 25 team is wrong.
Same for lots of ranked teams that lose their way after devastating losses. The effect lingers.
IMO that shouldn't diminish the accomplishments of beating top 10 teams who simply lose inspiration in the aftermath.
Whether this mean Les isn't a good leader or not, I can't say? History says he's a damn good coach.

LSU wasn't ranked #2 in pre-season nor early season.
Pre-season rankings are pure bias and pure stupidity. Anything AP related is horseshite.

Is this thread really needed?

Preseason rankings establish the bias used for the rest.

You're a tard. The real problem for LSU is that we now have 3 freshman on the OL, a freshman blocking TE, and a freshman FB. And the lack of development/recruiting would be on Miles...
And LSU likely won't finish in the top-25 for a second straight season. Pre-season media hype is a killer.

I think he has a decent point. The pre-season polls set the expectations for the year. I think we started around #15 and picked 4th in the West? Then, we got to #2 and paying for a play off birth. That crash reinforced the narrative with miles.

Gives us something to laugh at when only bama lives up to expectations

Nobody really knew how good LSU was going to be . The preseason prediction was anywhere from 7-5 to 10-2 pending who you talked to.
