Freaky shite generally doesn't happen. I don't know why people say this. When Auburn is bad to just OK, we get murdered.
THIS.
Bama usually destroys a bad auburn team.
Bama cannot beat a good auburn team

Auburn rarely fields one.

And since auburn defines a "good auburn team" as one who beats Bama, this point is irrefutable.

1984 says hello.
So does 2001.
And 1990.
In each of those seasons, an unranked Alabama team beat a ranked Auburn. In 1984, it cost Auburn the SEC and a Sugar bowl bid. In 2001, it cost them the west and a trip to the SECCG.
On the other hand, IIRC an unranked Auburn team has only beaten a ranked Bama once in the history of the series.
When one team is good and the other is not, the better (ranked) team almost always wins but on the few times an upset has happened it is usually Bama pulling the upset.
