Most of those teams have GREAT defenses. The Big 12 has NO defense.

Total defense rankings for Oklahoma opponents to date

Akron- #28
Tennessee- #54
Baylor- #72
West Virginia- #91
Texas- #93
Kansas State- #109
Iowa State- #115
Tulsa- #124
Texas Tech- #126
Kansas- #128

Oklahoma has played one team with a defense ranked inside the top 50 and that is a team from the MAC. Tennessee's the only other team they faced that had a defense inside the top 70 and Oklahoma got shut down for most of the game until Tennessee had their weekly 4th quarter meltdown. Seven of their ten opponents have a total defense ranking 90 or below. By comparison's sake, South Carolina's defense is ranked 90th in the country. 70% of Oklahoma's opponents has a worse defense than a South Carolina team that gave up 52 points to Georgia, 45 points to LSU and 28 points to Texas A&M. No wonder Baker Mayfield looks like a Heisman Trophy candidate after playing that murderous row of teams.

Raw scoring averages are misleading. From pace of play to varying quality of opponents there are far too many variables involved.

Off S&P+ (which accounts for those variables) Rankings:

Arkansas #5
LSU #14
Ole Miss #18
Mississippi State #30
Tennessee #40
Texas A&M #49

Alabama completely shut down two of the best offensive teams in the nation.
