The D played well in the first half. The lack of depth became pretty evident in the second, though.

Agreed.

Bama was the better team, but LSU's defense really played pretty well until they simply gave out of gas.

I'm not even sure depth was that much of an issue. 12 first downs, 182 yards, and 20:33 in time of possession. They were just on the field way too long. Even as deep as Bama's D goes, they'd have been sucking a lot of air with those stats.
