lol just joined. I used to post in the ESPN Georgia forums back when those were still a thing (can't remember my alias from then). Back then I would post that "well if we can just replace Willie Martinez then Richt will be fine". Eventually though I had to go back to the common denominator.

Thats the freakin understatement of the year.5 of the ranked teams that Donnan beat finished #25,#25,#25, #22 and #24 and beat ONE team ranked in the top 12 in his 5 years at Ga

Interesting. Let me throw out 2015, just to eliminate any excuses.

Richt has Three wins against top 12 opponents over his last eight full seasons (2007-2014). I guess your argument is that 3 is thrice as much as 1?

If you want to say Richt post 2007 has been better than Donnan then fine. There are even some numbers to back that up, and so technically you are right. (after all 3 > 2). Please answer this though.

In your opinion, how far away was Donnan?

A little context helps.

Florida's low ranking in the Donnan era was #12 in the country. Since 2008 Florida has had 4 seasons where they did not even finish ranked (what is Richt's record against good Florida teams again?)

Tennessee was a top 9 team in each of Donnan's first 4 years at Georgia. His 5th year UT was unranked and Georgia won.
2007 was the last time that Tennessee finished a season ranked. Since 2006 Georgia has faced 2 UT teams which finished the season ranked (does not include 2015). Georgia lost both of those games, and assuming that Tennessee does not sneak into the top 25 at year's end, Georgia will only be 5-3 against unranked UT opponents over the last decade.

In 15 seasons Mark Richt has faced as many Georgia Tech teams which finished in the top 25 of the AP poll as Jim Donnan did in 5 years. Richt has a losing record in those games.

Perhaps, but that is also a big reason why Richt is still here.

I actually think you nailed it here. Despite context a win over a rival is still a win. Plus, even against mediocre competition 9 and 10 wins most years is not an easy thing to do, and Georgia has had a habit of rolling those wins off at the end of the year. The simple timing of how certain games fall on their schedule have made the season's much less hearbreaking.
