Right, but less than a week of practice is nothing compared to the body of work already behind them. I just feel that it is a show.

It IS for show. Honestly the entire situation is being manufactured for the benefit of the fans. I don't think it is a real competition in three days, and I don't think there is any way Jake can "win."

If Jake starts that means the coaches are ready to reboot at the position and the whole competition was a way to sell the resulting fallout to fans. Jake partially exists on the roster to be the guy who will be a backup for more than a year and provide us some quality depth. Neither of the other two guys would be willing to do the same, so if Jake starts next year we will have Jake and whoever we sign on NSD in the QB position.

If Kyler starts Kyle is probably gone just like Kyle starting last year ran off Kenny. Maybe if Kyler fails after he starts we keep Kyle but at that point his confidence will be shot so who knows what value he has for us going forward.

If Kyle starts then Kyler is pretty much for certain gone as he has been more demanding than Kyle was last year. If the coaches let Kyler walk without giving him a chance to prove himself (aka the QB competition) and he does great elsewhere then Kyler become to Sumlin what RG3 and JFF were to Mack Brown.

These are all big decisions, and a "next man up" way of deciding it will leave a lot of second guessing (especially if the answer is Jake). Shrouding it in a competition makes it seem like the coaches have done due diligence, and it gives them some space to work outside the confines of meddling outsiders.

Supposedly, Kyler pushed Kyle in fall camp. Experience would have been the biggest advantage at that point. Any advantage jake had then, would have eroded by now.

I have 0 doubt jake would be more productive than Kyle, he's a better fit for our offense. The staff doesn't seem to think so too. They should know better than me though.

This QB competition is the coaching equivalent of a deus ex machina, except that it's worse because it's occurring in a black box. It's just a contrivance to say "oh wow, look who the competition revealed to us!" when they knew going in who they were going to have to switch to and what that would say about them and our future and the whole process leading up to this.

Yep.

This really is a potentially monumental decision with an impact that could affect the next couple of years, and ultimately determine sumlins tenure at a&m. Made all that more difficult based on the youth and lack of experience of everyone involved.

For my money id go with the guy that appears to have a unique skill set, Kyler Murray and his feet.

I still don't buy that he's fine physically and this is all mental. I think Kyle's competitive and won't admit he's injured and will just try to tough it out and keep playing, but it's only going to hurt himself and the team. If everyone thinks a healthy Kyle sucks, he's going to be damaged goods inside and outside Texas A&M and the team's going to hurt by looking like they can't pick a QB properly.
