I get that for recruiting purposes you need to make a commitment to the coach to show stability

Yes. So what is it you don't understand? It's well accepted that others were negatively recruiting because of Parkinson's. The contract nixes that, doesn't it? And before anybody goes off on guarantees or buyouts, I don't think any of that has been finalized.

but a 5 year deal when you've had a total of 1 good year?

A good year? What would you characterize as a great year? SEC COTY, SEC champs, Sweet 16, school record number of wins in a season... what do you Negative Nancies want???

A great year would be one where you win the conference outright, don't lose five conference games in a row, make the final four.

And I'm fine with an extension, though I'd take Jamie Dixon in a heartbeat over Kennedy, but my main issue with it is the length. 5 years is too much, especially when you don't need to give him a five year deal for him to stay. What do you not understand about that?

I'm not being negative. It was a nice season.

well, it was a decent year; out of 5. 1 year out of 5. We lost games we definitely weren't supposed to, and weren't even competitive when we played against OU with similar talent. Our FT shooting under Kennedy has been, well atrocious is too kind. So yeah, it was ok. And that's even a stretch considering all the talent we have. We have enough talent to win the tourney, so based upon that it really wasn't a good year. I'm being generous here.
