OLD Mizzou football

You younger guys missed some fun that we had 40 years ago. Mizzou used to hold an alumni game, bringing back former players for a full uniform, full contact game.
At the times I went, my best friend was Tom Shryock, starting tight end for the 68 Gator Bowl and 69 Orange bowl games. At any rate, the last alum game I went to (and the last, period) was sometime in the early-70s. The teams were both told to take it kind of easy ("Remember, it's just for fun, you guys.")...but as the game went on, the hitting started to get serious.
You should have seen the old, wheezing linemen from way back and the newer grads hitting late, cursing, and grabbing.
The alums scored a few points and ended with a couple broken legs, a broken arm, lots of hammie pulls, and near heart attacks.
The AD canceled the games after that.
Thanks for bearing with an old geezer while he recalls a fun time in our team's history.

As a 24 Y/O I'm honored to say I know Johnny Roland fairly well.

Cool story, the older we get the better these memories become.
I spent a lot of time with the 95-98 team, seems like just yesterday. Hard to believe it was 20 years ago.
Fun guys, crazy time.

I remember my dad talking about playing in those alumni games, but not sure he got in on the last one. He would have been in his mid 30s by then.

I would love to see Spoon and the Smiths come back.
