Mack Brown broke Texas with his failures at recruiting in-state QBs that wanted to go there and his culture of softness he instilled by trying to be a father figure/mentor instead of a head coach. The Gilbert fiasco set Texas back for years.

I think that is fair. Texas puts RG3 or JFF on their roster as a QB and everyone would still think Mack is a genius. He was one win away from winning the Big 12 the year he got fired, better QB play and he is still there.

Exactly. RG3 wanted to play at Texas and so did Jameis Winston. Manziel wasn't even recruited by Texas. Look at those three recruiting failures right there that Mack didn't want and wrap your head around that. All three Heisman winners, and I think you get a clearer picture of what "broke" Texas' program.

Ohhhh what could have been, Mack. Oh what could have been....
