I have a Filipino friend who puts sugar in it- I don't know if that's just individual taste or something cultural?

I know some old cats that put real sorghum in their grits but never saw anybody under 60 do it. How old is your friend?

Used to be a big deal when the steam sorghum crusher came to town when I was young

It looked sorta like this and had a big leather belt about a foot wide they hooked up to the machine that actually did the crushing from the actual steam engine. It was big and loud and made quite a noise at the farming event when it showed up.

She's 42.

I bet that was cool to watch that machine in action.

When we were kids we would put syrup and butter on them, also put sugar and cinnamon on rice.
