There's no doubt he's leaving them in a better place. Before OBC, USC was historically worse than even us.

No doubt. Holtz had achieved a decent measure of success before Spurrier, won some bowl games against Ohio State I believe. The wheels were pointed in the right direction when they hired OBC.
But yes, SC had some lean, lean years in the 80s and 90s. Somehow they always packed that stadium out then though!
