She wasn't there when he was murdered. She was out with friends while the murder took place, IIRC.

Either way, if there must be a death penalty, it should be reserved for the most heinous of offenders, and this wasn't one of them. I'm talking serial killer shite.

If she was better looking, she would have had a better chance at getting away with it. If she was even average looking, I don't think she gets the death penalty.

Having said that, if she'd confessed to it, she wouldn't have got the death penalty either.

You're correct. She was at a party. According to her co-defendant, however, she met him after the murder and they torched the victim's car.

I still don't understand why she was given the death penalty. The article alludes to it as motivation to get her to confess and accept life without parole. When she refused the deal, I suppose the prosecutors had no option but to continue with the death penalty trial.

I followed the trial in the local paper and Ms. Gissendaner was certainly not a defendant for whom people felt sympathy. That's no reason to execute her, but I think her personality played at least a small part in her conviction.
