Walton and Diggs are out.

Holloman to MLB
Moore to WLB
DJ Smith to SS

Also likely that Fenton replaces Harris.

I agree that Diggs was non-existent, but I thought that Walton played pretty well. Maybe I am wrong and put too much stock into the first two games.

I am glad that DJ Smith is getting in the game. Kid has a little bit of that swagger that we are missing. Didn't he nearly decapitate someone last year and get called for targeting?

I thought Walton and Diggs were 2 of our best defensive guys. Maybe they just need a kick in the arse. I expected Fenton to get a chance.

Both have been awful tacklers this year. Riggs takes ridiculous angles and gets beat and Walton tries to arm tackle and gets shrugged off.

I noticed several times over the 2 games that I've watched (was at a concert during the USC/UK game) is that Diggs would often attempt an arm tackle and the minute the tackle was broken, he would just give up on the play like "Well, I tried". He didn't even try to pursue the ball carrier down field after. I've always felt that lack of effort like that should always lead to quality time with the bench. I'll be at the game on Saturday and I'm interested to see how Smith does filling in. He was a guy that I really wish UGA had been able to grab coming out of HS.

Non-existent isn't even close. He takes the absolute worst angles on a tackle... like he would try and chase chubb from where he got the handoff when chubb was in the secondary bad.

Then when he did get a hand on the ball carrier.. it was just that, a hand.. swatting at the ball and then prancing out of the way... the only time he squared up to tackle someone was Michele at the goalline and Sony rolled his arse across the end zone like a tumble weed...

About 20 lbs bigger at their last weigh in. Same height though.

That's the play I was thinking about. Hopefully he can do it this year and not get called for the foul.

That was a beautiful play.

Some more defensive notes today:

Rashad Fenton will be suspended the first half of the UCF game, missing classes.
Shamiek Blackshear will get his first game action of his career this weekend, anything to help that opposite DE spot of Lewis.

Would've liked to RS him. Sawyer came in as a DT size and that fricked up the plan. Blackshear's leg is a full go though medically, if he can play without thinking about it, he'll have the opportunity to be really disruptive for us.

I don't think Blackshear's a guy though where he's going to stay 5 years, got no issue to see if he can help right now.

Is Blackshear that good? I know he was a stud in HS, but the injury scares me. Anybody seen what he can do?

That would've depended on how well the new DL coach would have developed him next year and the year after. Now he'll be on track to graduate and leave in 4. (unless we get an awesome DL coach next year and Blackshear is All SEC by his Jr year, then he'd probably leave early.)

I have. He is that good. He had a monster Soph season. Then he did very well his Jr Season but faded towards the end of the season. Then his Sr season he came out with a lot of effort, he was pissed about being dropped form 5* status, but he got hurt and that ended his HS career.

The ACL injury for a DL isn't as big of a deal as if he was a skill position player. He also has been doing all the rehab well, coming to team meetings and practicing. The coaches aren't getting the pass rush they want with D Johnson, Dixon or Cooper, so they have to look at another option. Lewis is doing ok, but we can't count on him for everything in pass rush.

I really hope he shows out on Saturday. I had high hopes for him, but that ACL injury made me back off.
