It was last year. 4th down QB sneak by Thompson signaled a first down securing SC the win

The whole chain rule is basically:
it is 1st Down if the tip of the ball is at/past the last link in the chain connect to the pylon. The ball doesn't have to be past the pylon or able to touch the pylon, the last link in the chain is what they use.
In the SC vs Mich game, the football was NOT at the last link and you had about 2 fingers distance, that's why Spurrier flipped his shite when they called it a 1st down and Clowney almost killed that guy.
In the SC vs UGA game, the football WAS at the last link (or at least I will choose to believe that
) and it was called a 1st down.
