I've been eating like a fricking pig ever since shoulder surgery 2 weeks ago.

The opiates make food taste better, and they also make eating more pleasurable.

Careful not to do very many things that normally bring you joy while you're taking pain meds. They can affect the pleasure centers in your brain. It's best to just take it easy.

That's good man. I had throat surgery in my early twenties and the pain meds led me down a road of addiction for about two years before I snapped out of it. Some of my friends didn't fare so well and they ended up in prison.

Most I ever did was some methadone wafers, my buddies got into OxyContin and it ruined their lives.

Eta: I say "snapped out of it." I took a bunch of klonopin and drank a lot of whiskey on a Sunday afternoon, wrecked my car and got a DWI. Blew a .2 at 3 in the afternoon. The experience that followed snapped me out of it pretty good.

My legs were burned pretty bad when I was younger and I went through that for 2 years, then another year after a shitty deployment. I was functional and never lost anything thankfully but I sure spent some $$.. Not my proudest moments

I heard that! The important thing is to learn from the experience and grow from it. If you can say that, it's a useful experience.

Listen to your own breath while you tell yourself a story in your head. It works.
