Alabama Defense's Achilles Heel

Is this the year that Alabama's defense isn't terrorized by a mobile QB? There is no pro form team that can beat Alabama on their best day, but a mobile QB has exposed this defense for many years. There is a lot of justified hype for Alabama's D this year, but I wonder has Kirby Smart finally figured out how to fix this gap?

The only years mobile QB give us fits is when we don't have the secondary to lock down receivers. Hopefully that is fixed now. I don't think its a schematic problem but more of a talent problem the last two years.

The secondary could be another thread. There is no doubt that it has been a frustrating problem for the Tide over the last couple of years too. Although Mel Tucker won't be in the limelight, I'm excited to see what he has thought these young DB's and I think his impact will be huge. I do agree with you, if you shore up the DB's then stopping a running QB becomes much easier.

Alabama's Achilles Heel is QB's that have passed the ball incredibly accurately. Sometimes they run; sometimes they don't. But the dual-threat guys that have given us trouble have done that to all teams. A really good qb who can pass AND run is not Bama'a Achilles Heel - it's everyone's.
Stupid thread and thought. It's like saying my dog's Achilles Heel is a hail of bullets. Stupid beagle - when's she gonna figure out how to beat massive gunfire?

This. We've shut down far more mobile QB's than ones that have killed us. We've struggled with what every defense in football would struggle with - a team that's able to establish both their running game and passing game.
The only 2 exceptions to that I can think of going back to 2008 are last year's Ole Miss game and 2011 LSU game. Ole Miss didn't run the ball all that well, but just well enough.

What happened in all of the losses to these teams?
Bama turned the ball over too many times. 3 vs Ohio State at some of the worst times killing momentum.
The OK bowl game, what 5 TOs?
TAMU 2012 3 TOs
2014 OM 2 TOs
The 2013 Au game no TOs but the defense did a good job. Held them to under 400 yds. BAMA had 595. Should have won that game and was the better team. IDGAF what anyone else says, Bama was the better team but Au miracles happened.

Yeah, I've long argued many of our losses were more on our offense not getting the job done than on the defense. 2010 Iron Bowl, Trent drops a sure TD, we fail to convert a couple of crucial 3rd downs, etc. 2013 Iron Bowl, fail to convert a 4th & 1, not to mention the missed FGs. 2013 OU, like you said all the turnovers. 2012 A&M, McCarron underthrowing a couple of passes where Cooper and Bell were wide open, then the INT on the goal line.

I'm drunk. Probably in the wrong thread. But I'm watching last year's iron bowl and i'm so pumped. We going 18-0 (or however many games we play now).
Whuppin that auburn arse.
Can't wait till kickoff.
