I honestly don't get this rationale. Oklahoma is one of the greatest programs in the history of CFB. They are the premier school in their state. New state.
But you are telling me that ECU is a better fit? Are you kidding me? ECU is what, 6th or 7th in NC?
Get out of here. If you aren't a Top 3 program in your own state, quit kidding yourselves.

Neither is Missouri and Texas really isn't the south either...but they are two flagship schools with great academics, great programs, and bring millions of eyeballs to the SEC Network.. OU could help solidify that...ECU is crap
