Name the last "good defensive coach" that A&M had since R.C. Slocum was fired.
I'll wait and listen to the crickets.

Overlooked?
No, by the Aggy threads A&M will have the #1 D in SEC and maybe top 3 in country.
You cannot overlook a team that will accomplish that feat.

I find remarkable similarities to Auburn and A&M and it is fair to say A&M is being overlooked. It is possible for two reasons.
1) Auburn has a history of bouncing back from disappointing years. The 5 loses weren't unexpected given the schedule but the lack of fight and shooting yourself in the foot like Auburn did against teams like A&M, MSU and Wisconsin was tough to take.
2) It is unfair to say Sumlin and Gus are similar. They both score points but when things work in Gus' offense he punishes the defense with a physical running game. Most football minds believe that is a better strategy than Sumlin's pitch and catch philosophy.
I wouldn't be shocked if A&M put it together this year, but I would't predict it either.

They do? Is that why more people throw the ball than ever before? Also Sumlin & A&M are working to build a power run game to go with the spread passing attach.

I think the reason more people expect more out of Malzahn's offense than Sumlin's is because they still doubt whether a pass-first offense can be successful in the SEC. Many just attribute the dominant offenses of 2012-2013 to the unique talents of Manziel. The thinking is those performances were anomalies. While for Auburn, the thinking is there was no single transcendent player responsible. Maybe a lot of good players, but no once-in-a-generation players.
I'll admit this thinking isn't unreasonable.

Putting both OG's in a 3 point stance is gonna be very good for our run game. Really like both Offensive Coaching hires.
Believe McKinney and some of the defensive Coaches are coaching for their jobs this year. We will see how that turns out.

You act like the difference between 2nd and 4th is 30 games. Auburn was a butt fumble and a couple of defensive stops away from being 2nd. Not that anyone cares who finishes 2nd. 4th, 2nd, West Champs but loose the SEC title game none of that matters. Looser worry about stuff like that. Everyone who picked them offered a disclaimer about their schedule.

A&M may be working on a power run game, but Gus' offense is built on it. It runs better when Auburn can run. People aren't throwing the ball more than ever like you suggest. Championship teams are always very capable of running the ball at all levels still. A&M has been poor at this under Sumlin. Could it change? Yes. I am hopeful Auburn's poor defense is going to change.

Pass Atts Per Game (top 20)
Last Year - 46.12
6 years Ago - 45.27
11 years ago - 40.54
Looks like its going up to me.

Key words being like you suggest. I am aware the numbers are going up, but I am also aware there is a difference between walking a few steps ahead of the crowd as a leader and running way out in front as a martyr. Running the ball is still key.

No one said running isn't the key. Being balanced is usually the best way to go about it, but what I said (that there is more apssing now than ever) is 100% fact.

In context of your defense of Sumlin's offense it appeared you were suggesting his total lack of commitment to the run was the direction things were going. Ask CSS how that has worked out for him over the years. Thankfully for him once he had so much defensive talent it didn't matter.
