huge underdog fell just short of beating a heavily favored opponent (in an SEC conference game).

Haven't read the whole thread, so SIAP, but in 1993, Kentucky had Florida on the ropes until Danny Wuerffel (then a freshman) threw a 20-something yard TD with just a few seconds left to pull out a close win.

2012 Auburn barely fell short 12-10 vs. LSU and had several opportunities in the second half to take the lead, but couldn't.

2006 Ole Miss took one of the best LSU teams in recent memory to overtime in Tiger Stadium before losing 23-20. For added drama, the Rebs blocked what would have been a game-winning extra point after LSU scored in the final 10 seconds of regulation to tie it 20-20.

Of course, the 2014 Arkansas-Alabama game was almost a huge upset.

That was just a few off the top of my head. There are many more, I'm sure.

It's weird, we won the SEC and the Sugar Bowl but that season could've been so much more if Spurrier hadn't been so damn loyal to Terry Dean over Wuerffel.
