Why did they limit it to since 1964? That's the year Georgia Tech left the SEC (followed by Tulane a year or two later), so that's when the form of the "modern" Southeastern Conference began.
Wrong. It's because Ole Miss won the SEC in 1963, so '64 was the first year of the Big 6 run of SECCs (not including the KY outlier).

Ole Miss is truly the last non "Big 6" team to legitimately win the SEC in 1963. I wish more SEC fans knew that the Kentucky "claimed" SEC co-champion title is less legit than Ole Miss claiming the 2003 SEC West Title.
In 1976, Georgia went 6-1 and beat Kentucky. Kentucky went 5-2 losing to UGA and MS State. The following season MS State had to forfeit all their games, so KY got to "claim" a win over State. Since they then had the same record (6-1) as UGA, they "claimed" a co-champion title along with UGA, even though they lost to UGA and on the field went 5-2.
