Would you support changing our state flag?
Yes or no and you can add why if you wish.
I say yes. We have to change the flag. I'm very proud to be a Mississippian but our flag is embarrassing.
Simply put, how do you think of someone when you see them rocking a confederate flag shirt? I view them as a backwoods redneck or a racist. That's how the world views us when they see our flag. It's time to change. Economically it would help and it would also help with our image.

Sometimes stereotypes hold true. I doubt you find too many upstanding citizens flying a confederate flag in their front yard.

I honestly have no care; if an inanimate object seems racist/offensive to you then that's pretty sad. With that said I think it'd probably be a good idea with how hostile this society has suddenly become towards the confederate flag.

Do you find a swastika offensive?

No
ETA: It's all apart of history like the confederate flag

I feel pretty much the same way you do, but I also think that outsiders opinion of Mississippi is never going to change no matter what we do.
It's almost funny, like we're owning it and just saying "frick you" to everyone else. I probably just wouldn't vote on the matter.

Since I don't live in Mississippi I obviously don't have a say in the matter, but I will say that if you do support the flag, don't start bitching when the rest of the nation is still calling Mississippi racist and backward thinking. Even though you personally might not be racist, you're still proving their point that the state of Mississippi has not moved on.

So you think it's sad that a Swastika offends Jews, or the Confederate Battle Flag the KKK brought to rallies to lynch black people offend people? Did the proposed Mosque across from Freedom Tower offend you? Or the signs Westboro Baptist put up at Military funerals?
Inanimate objects that represent hate, bigotry and violence are offensive. How does that not make sense to you?

Can you understand why people DO find these things offensive?
If you don't then that's pretty sad.

Btw, why is all this flag bullshite coming up? I know about the shooting in charleston and all, but don't know what it has to do with the confederate flag.
Sorry, been in Europe on my honeymoon and out of the loop

klan hoods/robes are inanimate objects....
That's a pretty flimsy position to assert, ijs

Swastikas and other nazi symbols (yes, I know the swastika was co-opted by the Nazis for their cause...similar to how the KKK co-opted the confederate flag) are an integral part of German history, but they're not celebrated this day and age, either.

If you think this is "sudden," you're naive, I'm sorry.

People don't like the fact that the Confederate flag is still flying on the SC capital grounds and is seen as a slap in the face to the victims and black people overall, since this attack was racially motivated and that flag in particular has been seen as a flag for segregation, racism and hatred for the past 50 years or so.

I don't live there so my opinion is moot.
The battle flag has it's place and that place is in an historical setting and not in any official state capacity, whether the flag represents racism is a debatable thing, the fact that some people use it to represent racism is enough to warrant it not flying officially over anything except a memorial to the men who lost their lives fighting. Just my $.02 take it or leave it.

I'm sorry but I realize that obviously everyone disagrees with me here but neither of these things has ever really bothered me.

Oh ok.
I could see that as a legitimate gripe if they were still flying the flag on the statehouse like they used to, but that is no longer the case, and I'm sure this has already been discussed ad nauseam
