Either way good luck to the kid.

Doubt we are going to see Doherty in a Tiger uniform
All depends on where he's drafted and how much he's offered. If he doesn't get at least $500,000, he'd probably be better served by playing a few years of baseball at Mizzou and re-entering the draft in 3 years. If he thinks he is that good at least.

Best served, maybe, but he just sounds like he really wants to play baseball.

Can you blame him? Upfront money, guaranteed contracts, paid development, longer pro career and less chance of injury. Pretty enticing for the young man that can choose between the two.

Well, for him I hope he gets drafted and paid like he wants to. Selfishly, I'm hoping to see him as a Tiger, not just for football but almost more so for the baseball team. They need a stick in the outfield.

Nope, can't blame him at all. If he wants to play baseball then more power to him,

For whatever it's worth, nearing the end of the 7th round and Doherty hasn't been drafted. Slot value at this point is below $200k, which means I'd imagine a team would have to offer him over slot to convince him to forego college. Not even to play football, but more so to play baseball in college and get drafted higher. Football will just be a beneficiary of that.

Yup. I'm thinking this is a very good sign.

Doherty not drafted. Everyone after the 10th round has a $10k slot value. Meaning it's highly unlikely he goes pro. Anything over $10k can only eat against the total slot value for a team for their picks in the first 10 rounds. It happens on occasion but rarely and rarely that much.
Bottom line, feel bad for Doherty but welcome to the Zou. Can't wait to see you on the football field and baseball field.

The fact that the Royals drafted him is a little bit concerning. They could have some money to play with. I really hope MD makes it here, especially with our RB situation (questions about Walters, Steward, and Abbington).

how does the over slot deal work?
