There's a lot of truth to this.

There was no terrorism before the Ottoman Empire was divided up among the European powers after World War I.

Iran was basically a benign, socialist/communist leaning state before the US decided to slide in and put our own puppet (The Shah) in charge... which lead to the takeover by radical Islamists.

If we (meaning the West - Europe and the United States) had just not fricked with the region, we probably wouldn't be dealing with the shite we deal with today.

3 Ottoman Empire provinces got lumped into a single Mandate by the British Empire. But I'm sure before the British came, the Shi'a and Sunni and Kurds didn't hate and kill each other. Cause ya'know, Ottomans weren't white, so they were the good guys.
