Hated seeing them leave, but excited for the NBA draft for the first time in a while with them involved. Here are some measurements from the combine:
Bobby Portis
Height- 6'9.75 (without shoes)
Weight- 246.2
Wingspan- 7'2
Standing Reach- 9'0.5
Body Fat Percentage- 8.9%
Michael Qualls
Height- 6'5 (without shoes)
Weight- 205
Wingspan- 7'0.25
Standing Reach- 8'0.9
Body Fat Percentage- 4.0% (lowest at combine)
Not sure if they do the vertical at the combine (figure they would but couldn't find anything on it) but interested to see what Qualls would have on that.

I didn't know Qualls had such an impressive wingspan. That explains the dunking a bit.

Portis seems to be making an impression.
From Chad Ford:
Bobby Portis is a hustler
I've been writing all year that Portis does everything well, but nothing great. I need to revise that statement.
After digging through more video of him over the past month and then watching him again in workouts, I do think there is something Portis does that's elite -- he hustles. He's a pretty low-key young man when you talk with him, but roll out the basketball and there are very few bigs in the game who play as hard as Portis does on both ends of the floor. That motor was evident in his workout here in Chicago. Despite being the biggest guy on the floor, he out hustled everyone here and really set the tone for the other players on the court. He also shot the ball very, very well for a big man. His shot release is a bit unorthodox (he let's it go from behind his head) but it goes in -- a lot.
Even his NBA 3-point stroke looked polished. To me, Portis is one of the lowest risk players in the draft. His ceiling might not be incredibly high (though there are enough pieces there physically and skills wise to make me rethink that) but his floor is very, very high. He's so fundamentally sound, I have a hard time seeing how a player with his size, motor and all-around game fails in the NBA. For a drafting team that simply cannot afford miss on a player, he's a very good pick. No. 13 to No. 20 continues to feel like the proper range for him in the draft.

There use to be a big in Chicago who shot like this.
Bill Cartwright did alright in the NBA for a long time...

But Anderson is screwing them by not making them bulk up her der...

Portis DID bulk up, though.

He played the season at 242-245lbs.
Just pointing out that its flawed logic by saying Portis/others needed to be "bulked" up, 245lbs with 8.9% BF isn't a "small" player needing "weight"...

Ahh, my mistake. I've been pimping Portis to fellow Mavs fans in the event he somehow fell down in the draft. One of the things I've been listing as a positive is his size.

He's in shape, he isn't a 5 block to block type player, but he isn't going to be asked to be either.
He is more than capable of guarding players his size/position all over the court (obviously quicker guards are going to drive by him), but most importantly he is able to run the court for long minute stretches which is important in the NBA game.

Qualls with 39.5 on the vert

I found this real quick:
2010 best verticle from combine - 32 inches
2011 - 36.5
2012 - 38
2013 - 46 (I think)
MJ and LBJ are supposedly around 44.

Def. Don't buy that. Not for LeBron at least.
Nique's had to be up there too.

Qualls makes dunking fun even in a practice
It's unreal how good NBA players are at shooting the ball. They made that look so easy even if they were just basically practicing

I wish Memphis would do me a favor and pick up Qualls and let TA groom him for a year or two. They are going to have to do something quick as Carter and Allen are both at the end of their careers. Knowing the Grizzlies though they will go throw away some money on another point guard while they already have Mike, Beno, and Nick.
