That's all nice, but a big time player or two would make all the difference.

Top 100 recruits won't come here until we have some sustained success and make a tournament run or two.

That's not true. Go look at LSU, A&M, MSU, AU's classes.

As far as the football recruiting is concerned, they miss on PLENTY of recruits. There is just a much much larger pool to choose from.

They also have to fill more spots. The football program recruits in the top 10. The basketball program isn't anything close to that. I'm not saying they should be, but the football miss comparison doesn't really hold water. If the basketball program could sign one top 100 kid per class, the ceiling of the team would rise dramatically. I'm not saying the guys we signed are slouches. They just aren't guys who take you to the sweet 16, most likely. They can help a great team though.

If you're worried about what LSU, A&M, and MSU are doing, just look at their coaches. None of those guys can coach their way out of a wet paper bag! Plus, there is plenty of shadiness concerning their recruiting. AU has a good coach and great recruiter in Pearl. They are going to have some success in the coming years, and then it will all come crashing down.

I'm not trying to crap on the football program and understand it's an apple to oranges comparison, but they do have misses as well. The point was it is easier to cover those up in the eyes of the fans when you have ~25 new guys coming in each year, whereas basketball has 2-5 new guys coming in each year.

I respectively disagree. I think with our current construction, if we can stay healthy, we have a legitimate shot of making the sweet 16 next year. Maybe the fans will take notice then. At least I will have the satisfaction of knowing I have been rooting them on through the thick and thin!

Also, thanks for engaging in some discussion about the basketball team! That shows that we are starting the make some strides. In the past, no one would even talk about them!
