I've always thought it would be interesting to make people vote based on issues rather than names or party.
Voting would take longer but the outcome of a lot of elections would be dramatically different. Instead of going into a booth and block voting one party or selecting a name, you are presented with a 10-20 question "survey" based on issues relevant to the national election. Your vote would be cast based on your responses to the survey without ever being able to just pick the Republican or Democrat.
