He beat Bama last year. I mean the crowd rushed the field so that has to be significant, right?

Beating the #1 team in the nation on a day when the nation kept its eyes glued to the two Magnolia State teams does mean a lot, yes. No need to be salty.

It was a hell of a win, and they had some bad luck with injuries that certainly played a role in their late season regression.

Unfortunately, that's part of the answer to the OP - playing in the SEC West is a big part of the problem. Last year's Ole Miss team would have been serious contenders in just about any other conference.
