I keep seeing the Rant saying State will finish last in the West

and I'm trying to figure how in the hell anybody with an IQ above jello could come to that conclusion?
For years on here- all I have read about is how Mullen wont ever compete for the West at State because he "cant croot at a high enough level". Yet he showed in 2014 that was bullshite as State finished 2nd in the West and was a 3rd and 10 on defense in the 4th Q vs Bama down 6 points from winning it. Bama's QB picked up 3 pivotal 3rd down on that 4th Q drive to put State away.
So now State- who was able to compete for the SEC West with all these 2-star and low 3-star talents- cant do it again in 2015 with higher rated talent?
QB- State returns the best QB in the SEC and it's not even close.
RB- State loses 3-star Josh Robinson who didnt even start in HS until his Sr season. They replace him with 4-star Ashton Shumpert, 4-star Aeris Williams, and 3-star Dontavian Lee.
talent upgrade at RB.
WR- State loses 3-star Jameon Lewis and 4-star Robert Johnson. Johnson- as a starter- was 8th on the team in receptions. Lewis had basically lost his starting position to 4-star Fred Ross by season's end. Add in 4-star juco Donald Gray to go with Wilson who could be All-SEC- and this is the best position group on the team
State will be much better at WR now that some guys have grown up and Mullen wont play SRs ahead of them.
OL- State loses 2-stars Blaine Clausell and Dillon Day, plus unrated walk-on Ben Beckwith. They are replaced by 4-star juco Martinas Rankin, 3-stars Devon Desper, Jamaal Clayborn, and Rufus Warren
More talent, less experience. But every starter will be at least in their 3rd year of college and only Rankin hasnt played an SEC snap.
DL- State loses 2-star Preston Smith, and 4-star DT's Kaleb Eulls and PJ Jones. They will be replaced by 3-star AJ Jefferson, 5-star Chris Jones, and 4-star Nick James
Chris Jones will be a 1st rounder, and Nick James is going to work his way into the draft as Preston Smith did in 2014. AJ Jefferson would be a top 3 round guy if his measurables were better. Starting DL will be better- depth a concern.
LB- We lose 3-star Benardrick Mkinney and 3-star Matt Wells (who is blind in one eye). We add 4-star Richie Brown- who would come in for McKinney on passing downs, and 4-star Gerri Green- who redshirted. 4-star composite juco Traver Jung will also be added into the mix.
Secondary-lose 3-star Jamerson Love and replace him with projected 1st-2nd rounder Will Redmond. Also lose 3-star Jay Hughes- who will be replaced by another 3-star, unless consensus 4-star Jamal Peters can take the SS job as a true Freshman at some point.
As many of you will see this Fall- graduation made State better in alot of areas. Mullen's loyalty to Sr's kept playing time away from more talented back-ups. The starters we lost are being replaced by veterans with more overall talent.

DISCLAIMER: We, as a general fan-base, do not claim him as one of our own.

Nah, A&M will finish last

Leave it to coonass to make an argument based on recruiting stars.

What do engie's balls taste like?

It's not a knock on State to predict them to finish last in the West for 2015. It's more of an evaluation of the overall strength of the division. This is going to be the deepest the West has ever been, or right there at it.

All I could do was laugh.
How do you look at the loss of a Josh Robinson based on his 3 star ranking coming out of HS?

coonass delivers the comedy

I totally agree with that statement- and I think it's the most even its ever been

because this is what has been used against State fans time and again on this very site. Mullen "doesnt recruit on a high enough level" has been the mantra on here for years.
And Josh Robinson was good- but he had drawbacks in that he was short and didnt pass block worth a shite. Our overall talent at RB will be better next year

Meh. Y'all lost a lot of production and starters (I know, rabble rabble Mullen system rabble rabble). Y'all and A&M may struggle badly to see 7-5 in the regular season.

Dak made a mistake coming back for his senior year.
Without a solid OL, he's gonna get whooped like he was in Panama City on spring break.

quote:IMO, Mississippi State won't finish last in the SEC West, but they won't be as good as they were in 2014. They will take a step back but still be a threat to ruin someone's SEC West title chances.
I keep seeing the Rant saying State will finish last in the West
quote:I would say Jeremy Johnson and Josh Dobbs are close, but haven't been able to fully prove it. Keep in mind, I love Dak Prescott. I was raving about him last off-season.
QB- State returns the best QB in the SEC and it's not even close.

No- thats not what I'm saying. I'm saying Mullen plays Sr's alot that have been loyal to the program- over more talented players.
He did it with Perkins over Josh Robinson- did you not think we were better at RB this past season?
He did it with Love over Redmond at CB in 2014. Redmond didnt start- but is projected 1st-2nd round. Love may not even get a FA contract.
Same thing with Chris Jones- he has yet to start a game- but is projected 1st round
Robert Johnson started at WR- but was 8th in receptions
I can go on and on

As I said- book mark it.
Here was my 2014 prediction:
My prediction:
1. Alabama
2. Miss State
3. Auburn
4. LSU
5. Ole Missus
6. Texas A&M
7. UPig
LINK
I wasnt too far off. I'll be pretty close again as usual. Just remember this thread after State beats LSU on Sept 12th.

Neither chris jones nor Redmond are going to be first rounders. Please stop that nonsense

Jones will be picked before Kimchee...and the Redmond is already on everybody's radar. CBS has him as the 8th best CB heading into 2015- but I think he easily climbs higher
