Your OOS numbers are ridiculous for an flagship university. What happens when the bubble bursts and UA stops giving all this money away to OOS students?
When a kid from Cali/NY/Texas/Conn compares their in-state tuition costs to Bama's OOS tuition they are seeing a sizable discount, almost half of what they'd be paying if those kids stayed home and went to school.
I think it's a balancing act. UA gives $$ to some OOS students, while they are getting the attention of many OOS students and their parents - when those parents start comparing costs to in-state vs OOS at UA, they seriously consider UA. UA's marketing campaign out of state has grown tremendously.
