Serious question. Why did UK downsize Commonwealth? I know that Commonwealth is adding the goal line to goal line suite tower on one side, but couldn't they have done that without decreasing the upper deck on that side? ...and are there any plans that they can expand again later if needed? The newly renovated Commonwealth will be very nice when completed.

I'm sure it could have been done, but I believe they cut into the existing structure to maintain an all around consistent footprint for the stadium. If they hadn't that side would have been sticking out more and wouldn't have fit into the desired expansion footprint. Also, while I haven't heard of how an expansion would be done in the future. I am sure an expansion would be done within the end-zones where the old existing suites are located.

I could see something similar to the recent LSU end-zone expansion. Of course not to that magnitude, but more that style with the variety of seating options, along some new suites to replace the existing.

Future expansion will probably be on the north side as a third level. That would bring capacity to about 80,000. The stadium was originally designed for expansion to 104,000 but the new suites, the south mezzanine and the recruiting patio have reduced future capacity to about 94,000.
