There are a lot of things killing college basketball. The one-and-done doesn't help in terms of helping the game with the average fan, but the inconsistencies in officiating, the dimensions of the lane, the awful zone defenses all help to bog things down on the offensive end, which makes the game tough to watch.

However, the idea that the game wouldn't benefit from seeing some of these guys play multiple seasons is absurd. Of course the game is going to be better if Anthony Davis is playing for three years. By the time Davis really took off his freshman year, college fans got to admire him for maybe two or three months before he was gone. College basketball desperately needs some stars to build around. It's just not going to happen in this day and age.

I'd like to see the NBA let high school players make themselves available for the draft. If they don't like where they are picked, they can forgo the draft and go to college. However, once they do that, they are locked into the college game for three years. This way, the guys who are late 1st round picks and especially 2nd round picks essentially would be making the choice between the D-League and big-time college hoops. I think that would help the college game develop some star power and allow players to develop their all-around games.

Don't forget to mention skill.

Sure the players are more athletic today but most players have limited skills.
Ball handling is an issue, no midrange game, and no understanding of the game in general. Players now are all about dunks and 3s. This is not only lacking in the college game but the NBA as well.

I’m not sure why the NBA doesn’t want kids to stay in college longer to develop their skills and improve their product because it is shite right now. I assume it has something to do with GMs under pressure of losing their jobs and hoping they land the next big superstar by drafting a 19 year old with major upside.
