It is worse. You bring up an excellent example of the hypocrisy of college football, but on the subject of many college athletes not being "real" students, I think it's fair to say that the one and dones are even more of a farce than the two and dones in football.

Where the one and done really hurts is at the top level. Think about what next year would look like if Duke and UK had their guys coming back. Talk about hype going into the season. also would increase interest in the regular season.

Rule changes can improve the level of play overall.

There are a lot of things killing college basketball. The one-and-done doesn't help in terms of helping the game with the average fan, but the inconsistencies in officiating, the dimensions of the lane, the awful zone defenses all help to bog things down on the offensive end, which makes the game tough to watch.

However, the idea that the game wouldn't benefit from seeing some of these guys play multiple seasons is absurd. Of course the game is going to be better if Anthony Davis is playing for three years. By the time Davis really took off his freshman year, college fans got to admire him for maybe two or three months before he was gone. College basketball desperately needs some stars to build around. It's just not going to happen in this day and age.

I'd like to see the NBA let high school players make themselves available for the draft. If they don't like where they are picked, they can forgo the draft and go to college. However, once they do that, they are locked into the college game for three years. This way, the guys who are late 1st round picks and especially 2nd round picks essentially would be making the choice between the D-League and big-time college hoops. I think that would help the college game develop some star power and allow players to develop their all-around games.
