They kind of have to bother with the second half in other to keep the team from getting hit with APR penalties. They do take online courses instead of regular classes in order to do so while pursuing the draft in the spring.

But now, please don't be naive enough to think that it's any worse than the football player who is undecided until his sophomore year and then majors in communications but never graduates.

It is worse. You bring up an excellent example of the hypocrisy of college football, but on the subject of many college athletes not being "real" students, I think it's fair to say that the one and dones are even more of a farce than the two and dones in football.
