If you want to get technical the N word is actually derived from the word Negus which is Ethiopian. It means kings. However everything was shuffled around here in America and it was given a negative meaning

Somebody found the Googles! Interesting trivia, but the origin of the word is almost completely irrelevant to its current meaning. Charles Manson was once a cute, cuddly little baby. And that swastika carved in his formerly adorable forehead was a symbol of peace and well being for many cultures over many centuries. There are countless examples of highly offensive words, sayings and symbols that at one time had a very different meaning. And if you plan to use any of them literally in casual conversation I'd suggest you carry a large dictionary and a small firearm.
