He made $1.8 with bonuses and incentives last year IIRC.

Well that is far from... "he's being paid like he's at a high profile P5 school". He is holding out for a top tier job. I would bet good money he has turned down significant raises from school's he feels like it would be an uphill battle to coach at.
There are a few coaches at the mid-major level who hold all the cards. Marshall and Smart are two of them. Just off the top of my head, Few is the only other one that I can think of. Few has proven he is happy at Gonzaga. Marshall and Smart have proven that they are looking for an established elite program to take over.
