I made a light hearted comment and some of you guys take the opportunity to go nuts. And then you have RebelGator's comment. Really? That's a pretty ignorant statement. People like their traditions and I would love to have Colonel Reb and Dixie back. It's really simple as that. I'm under no illusion that it will happen.

Yeah, because a cartoon character and an Elvis Presley hit are more important than the future of our academia.

You left of an L.
Furthermore, all of us love FDWL. It might be back one day.
Col. Reb is gone. It's been gone since before most of us set foot on campus. Get over it and move on.

I'm just saying that any candidate whose primary goal is to reinstate a cartoon character and an Elvis song should not be in consideration. We should have a Chancellor who pretty much declares war on the IHL, and tells them to go frick themselves when it comes to the well being of our university. I'm sick of the state's great schools being held back by this cancerous institution. We need to get State's and Southern's Chancellor in on this, since if their chancellors stand up to the state and our power hungry governor, then they could be next. We have a laughably high acceptance rate thanks to our state government, and we need to tell them to frick off, especially after this. They want an institution that will accept everyone, go to Northwest.

Therein lies the humor (perhaps a poor attempt) of my post. It was never meant to be taken seriously. I must say I do want Colonel Reb back, but I realize it will never happen unfortunately.

I agree with this and I also agree with this...

I agree with this 100%

Colonel Reb I don't really care to get back. I'd rather we go back to the drawing board and just get the shark instead of the bear, but it's really irrelevant. I will always have a fondness for Colonel Rebel, but I don't want him used in negative recruiting.
As for Slow Dixie, I want it back too, but so long as retards keep screaming TSWRA at the Library, then it will never return because those same retards would scream it in the stadium. If I was to run the Library tomorrow and we played that song towards close, I'd have bouncers drag these idiots back to a back room, take their pictures, and never allow them back in for saying it. Seriously, nothing pisses me off more than when these fricking idiots say it in the Library, because all they're doing is ensuring it never enters the stadium again. So until they stop saying it or they all die of malaria (I'm hoping for the later), then these idiots will ensure that we never get it back. And so long as these idiots are still breathing, then we can't bring it back due to the national spotlight.

I still don't understand why people were so against the Landshark for all sports. I assume liscenure problems would have been a big setback.
Posted on 3/24/15 at 8:55 am to HottyToddy7
The argument I saw at the time was that the Landshark was too football specific. Remember it didn't become popular among all sports until Marshall did it in the sec tournament.
Posted on 3/24/15 at 10:37 am to UMRealist
That was the argument. But now I think it has become universal, so I don't see why we couldn't change it. The school makes no money off of licensing the bear, might as well change it to something that can be profitable.
