Would you say this is a significant flaw in capitalism?

I would. But I choose it over the alternatives.

I hear this often, but what are the other alternatives? Surely you're smart enough to not think Stalinism and other oppressive state dominated systems are the alternatives.

And why does it have to be a full 'alternative'? Why can't we just recognize the drastic and oppressive flaws in capitalism and try to attack the root of these issues for a better outcome instead of being scared to death of saying there is something wrong with capitalism and changes need to be made.

If an economic system is suppressing cures for cancer, I'm not sure 'but it's the best of the alternatives' is an appropriate stance.
