If you just want to get spooled and broken off by a 200 pound stingray or a 6 foot shark, then by all means, sling a surf rod 80 yards past the breakers with a big nasty hunk of mullet on a 4 inch hook.

I dont care anything about sharks or Rays

Theres a good bait shop at chimney creek just over the bridge where you could check in about the better spots. I fish and shrimp the creeks so im not much help. If you need to rent gear you can get it up my the pier like deerpig said

Stop in Bowie seafood on the left by the first Chu's you come to. my cousin owns it. theyre names are Jamie and her husband is Don. theyre great people and sell bait also. say her cousin Jason said to ask. theyll tell you whatever you need to know. and probably drink beer with you

Get yourself a crab pot then and tie it off the pier... or better yet, find a creek. Then when you get back to the house, boil them and make your kids do the dirty work of peeling them while you take a nap in a hammock. Then get up, melt some butter and pair with an ice cold Budweiser.

Then you are in luck, just like the GON guys said. Should be covered up with whiting.

Pretend you are crappie fishing and use small pieces of shrimp on small hooks. Whiting like the wash created by breakers. There are usually two sets of breakers. I've always had best luck at the second set closer to the beach. You'd be surprised how close the whiting are, most people are standing on them when they cast out.

Whiting have razor sharp gill plates that will slice you wide open if you handle their gills. Get some gloves.

As I already said, the birds will steal your bait, and they will also steal your whiting.

My experience on Tybee is very limited, but I've surf fished a lot in Charleston and the surf is very similar.

Jefferson's crab idea is great too.
