Not sure where else to put this:

Dazon Ingram says he's narrowed his April 13 college choice to 10 schools but would probably sign with Alabama "if they get a great coach."

Meanwhile, the coach with the most exciting brand of hoops and an excellent record sits out in Provo.

If Avery Johnson is actually interested I could definitely get behind that hire.

Agree. Marshall didn't want to gamble his reputation, career, and happiness on making a big turnaround. Even though we sold him on letting him become a pioneer for UA Basketball, he didn't think the move was worth it. However, I argue that not every bigtime, elite, blue blood job opening will be a rosey picture. Coaches rarely leave/retire when they are on top and the program is rolling. More often than not, that job will require some turnaround work.

I commend Battle for putting together the package he did and aggressively going after Marshall. It was the right package, the right target, but everything else about the Bama situation is off kilter as it stands today. The financial package for the coach is just one part of the equation for success. We agreed to put in the necessarry resources to land Marshall but it was really late in the game to start investing in order to land a coach of his caliber, particularly when other blue blood jobs are going to open.

We have some real work and investment to do to make the Bama job what we know it can be. Everything else at Bama is humming along and doing incredibly well, so its time to focus on the program from a big picture, holistic standpoint. What we need is a sort of "Mark Cuban" type vision to energize the program and fanbase. Not sure where that is going to come from.....

I like Avery Johnson and admired what he did in Dallas. He's a pure NBA guy and I don't know if he can recruit or is the disciplinarian needed for college but would be a real face saving hire and excellent stop gap measure if we could land him...and a nice "F*UcK You" to the detractors.

Alabama has two five stars coming out in 17. Need a coach that could lock these players down. The state has talent to build something good.

I would be happy with hiring Avery Johnson, if that is even a remote possibility.

A few interesting questions brought up by a Longhorns writer about Avery Johnson when they were looking at him as a potential candidate:

quote:

On PTI, Michael Wilbon floated Johnson's name for the job on Monday. Johnson certainly experienced periods of success with the Dallas Mavericks and New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets, but would Patterson really be willing to hire a coach with no college experience at all?

How would Johnson handle the limited amount of practice time? Would be he effective as a recruiter?

Those are significant questions that would make hiring a coach like Johnson a significant risk at a time when the program needs a sure thing to energize the donor base to raise money for the new basketball arena.

Pitino is my last choice at the moment. His resume isn't impressive at all yet. I'd rather take a chance with Acuff (UAH) .

I'm on board with Acuff, he has worked wonders at Alabama-Huntsville going to multiple Division II tournaments and making Elite 8s, Final Fours fairly regularly, winning multiple GSC regular season and tournament championships, and recruits Huntsville and Europe incredibly well. He uses Madison Academy to his advantage constantly. Acuff knows X's and O's incredibly well.

I'd be disappointed with Acuff TBH. Seems like we could do better for the money we are offering.

He (Acuff) took Anthony Grant to overtime in 2011 against the Alabama team that went to the NCAA Tournament in an exhibition game and lost 67-60. I played ball with many of those men that played on that UAH team in 2011 that nearly won a national championship in Division II. He is a proven winner and men love to play for him in Huntsville.

Anyone getting a bit annoyed that we haven't heard a thing yet about who we are actually targeting now?

Disappointed would be a vast understatement

Ask Missouri how hiring an in-state D2 coach worked out.

No. Coaches convention at the final four this weekend. Best place and time to hire a coach. They will all be there.

I really want Avery Johnson. I think the NBA angle will help in recruiting a lot. Him or Miller.

This is dumb, quit mentioning it....If Acuff was on the staff as assistant than it would be great because he has ties to North Alabama obviously.

and UAH has never been to the final 4 and only 1 elite eight appearance.

This is true....great guy, great coach...just not for a school like Alabama.

It was his first season, Missouri was coming off of depletion of the roster and a coaching change. Sometimes you lose before you win.

His best player just transferred. They'll be just as bad next year, and I doubt he survives another 20 loss season.
