Of course. It's full of parables that anyone could use. The good Samaritan is one for an example.

Can a Christian be comforted by a secular self-help book?

Of course anyone who loves reading can find inspiration or motivation in just about anything. I just wondered if there was any particular aversion to the Bible...I am not an atheist, nor am a particularly religious person but I do find inspiration and comfort from reading particular scriptures

Yes. I find the book of Joshua to be very inspiring.

My favorite part is when the god has the Jews kill all the Canaanites so they could take Israel. Men, Women and Children, even those who weren't resisting. It provides a great example of an effective counter insurgency strategy.

Not an atheist, but not a Christian either. The bible can be a source of inspiration for whatever you want it to be. Hate, intolerance, acceptance, peace, misogyny, ignorance, intelligence.... It's a big, huge contradiction.

You know that Abraham is the father of both the Muslim and the Jewish nations.

Sure. Lots of truth in the bible. Ecclesiastes is the best thing there, but there's a lot of good stuff all over.

I've never been a Yankee whaler nor a Cuban fisherman, but Moby Dick and The Old Man and the Sea are religious experiences. If there are such things.
