His comments are nothing more than the usual coach's whine when they take away his favorite toy.

He did not use that play much last year, and will use it less this year. I think his fear is with the Officals and not the rule. One yard leaves a lot to the judgment of the Officals, so playcalling will not take any chances.

Malzahn is already pissed off that the NCAA won't let his receivers get a ten yards running start, like in Arena football. This rule was his breaking point.
