Absolutely. IF the population just sat in the cities. However, they would, I expect move out slowly as food becomes more scarce. One point thta walking Dead does not address is that if a Virus (And I don't think they have ever said what exactly caused the zombieism)(Is that even a word?) caused the turnings then what if it affected the water and/or wildlife? In that case it would not matter where you were. And,in the case of a nuclear attack the water, soil and wildlife would all be gone, too.

I think in the case of the walking dead, everyone has the
Virus. You turn when you die, so contaminants are not the issue. Just don't die

In the Walking Dead, they've said that everyone is already infected (they don't know how it started as far as I know) and when people die, they turn since the virus (or whatever, but has to be a virus) is already in them. That was what was going on at that CDC lab where the guy had studied his wife and showed reactivation in her brainstem when she died and reanimated.
ETA: like DawgCountry said above

This isn't a Walking Dead thread. That show is lame.......
So, you just expect everyone is going to hold hands and form an orderly and polite single-file line for the migration out of the city after the last croissant from Starbucks is eaten??
Seriously: How are you going to get out when 6 million people are simultaneously trying to do the same? Where will you go? How far will you get without water and no food in your belly? OR even if by some small chance that you're lucky enough to survive and escape...........how long would you or most atlantans last when faced with having to survive off the land without Siri to there to help you?
