Hi rant, newbie Mizzou fan here. I figured since Tiger basketball isn't worth talking about, I would inquire about various hidden-gem cities, towns or districts within the SEC footprint. I'm working my way around the South and want to road-trip to various locales during baseball and football season. I have already been to many of the cities and towns where the schools are, but not the surrounding areas.
Some of the favorites I have already seen would be:
Apalachicola, FL
Eureka Springs, AR
Hermann, MO
Magazine Street, NOLA (district)
Any road-trip advice is appreciated!

I've heard good things about the Upper 9th Ward/Bywater and Marigny area.

The west side of Montgomery, AL is a must see.

Not really off the beaten-path, though. It has three exits on I-65.

ETA: The only reasonably fun thing to do in Athens is the Fiddler's Convention. It was a great place to grow up, but there's not exactly anything cool going on.
Athens State and the surrounding historical district are pretty. The college is the oldest in the state. You can see the first governor's house in Belle Mina, and the oldest incorporated town nearby in Mooresville.

Old school feel with the downtown area. Hilly terrain with a few neat waterfall spots nearby. Ave Maria grotto. torri pines country club. Werners trading company, all steak (best steak and orange rolls ever). recently went wet. Kma barner boy little brother
