Isn't that the truth. I grew up watching those battles between Wimp and Joe B. Bama always had an elite big man in the 80s, ala Robert Horry or Derrick McKey. Wimp had personality which really spiced up the rivalry. I see the 70s/80s as the SEC's golden years. You had Wimp, Sonny Smith, Hugh Durham, Dale Brown, the Ernie and Bernie show, and UK was up and down enough that all of these teams had years when they won the conference and had success in the NCAAs

Yep - love hearing my parents and their friends talk about the late 70s and 80s of SEC Basketball. So many characters and above all else great basketball and loud, filled arenas.
