Im of the generational belief like your in laws. Dont dislike blacks at all, but don't want the races mixed. Thats how I grew up.
One of our daughters however has been in a black/white relationship recently. I had a very hard time with this I will admit. However, eventually you have to come to the realization that what matters most are a few things.
1. Does he love and respect your daughter?
2. Is he good to her?
3. Is he a good provider, or will he be?
4. Is he honest?
5. Does he respect others and have good family values?
Those have nothing to do with color. Its about being a good person. While I still struggle some with this topic, at the end of the day, if she loves him, and the dude hits those 5, Im ok with it.
Still not ideal, because I think mixed kids take more shite that non mixed, but when I go to my grandsons kindergarten class, I see about half the kids are some sort of mix. Maybe that generation simply wont see color.
This old fart continues to evolve.

I have a lot of respect for this post.

It's a must for all of us to continue to evolve when it comes to social issues. There's fellow blacks I would love to bash with a baseball bat over their head's when they open their mouths on issues of race. Those who are entrenched with ignorance & narrow mindedness allow the ugliness of prejudice & hatred to continue smoldering below the surface of today's society.
