Totally different sound. They both have their place.

Both great guitars. I like the Les Paul but I like the sound and feel better than the Strat. My dad like his Strat better for the same reasons. It is all up to the person and the sound they are looking for.

When playing clean tones or just a little bit of extra drive, especially with blues or folk rock, I prefer the Les Paul. Fender is superior for hard rock.
