Who will replace Lunney?

Hopefully not his son, eh?

Probably sees the writing on the wall. Bye bye to the big advantages he has being the only HS in Bentonville.

Yeah, because he had such a tough time while at FS Southside.

See Springdale and what happened there. Rogers didn't have a lot going on in the first place, but splitting the high school didn't seem to help them any.

Lunney didn't go into a situation in Ft. Smith where half of his school was gone all of a sudden.

Sure it will split the football team up and create more opportunities across the board for more students. That's a good thing and most of the reasonable people here who actually care about their kids's education understand this. It's something I supported and voted for, and my kids will go to the new high school.

I agree with all you said, SLC. I am just referring to what the athletic program can expect. Half the pool of talent for each school. Not saying one or the other will not or can not excel athletically, just that it will get a little harder.

Lunney said (paraphrased) that 'he wanted to go out on top, on his terms, knowing he had 2 or 3 good years still left in him.'

In other words - get while the getting is good.

Rick Jones from Greenwood should be their first phone call. Kendrick from Charleston is a hot name in the HS ranks right now too. (and the Charleston folks hate it!!!)

We're of similar minds. I was born in Bentonville and it is far, far removed the town it used to be. I usually refer to it as Plano North b/c of the attitude and elitism the people they exhibit. There is still a faction wanting to prevent the high school split for athletic purposes, that group still wants to convert West High into a 9th grade learning center. They're nuts and they don't care about the best interests of the entire student body.

Still, it's a pretty good place to raise my kids.
