Have literally never seen a single cleft palate here in America in person. Cleft palates aren't really welcome by the white privileged so we don't allow our kids to have them.

I saw a lot of them when I did my peds rotation. That was 20+ yrs ago, though.

Babies born with Cleft palate are routinely fixed shortly after birth in this country. Not so much in other countries due to lack of available medical and surgical resources.
Kids are kids. Nobody should have to live life with such a reparable defect.

They're not exactly unheard of here.
My wife is an SLP and has clients with them. They're way more common in South America though. Her practice normally sends a few people to S. America for a few weeks a year.
