From what I've heard they've had a really great offseason, so I'm pretty optimistic for them this year.

They finished last season with some promising series wins over Carolina and the like so there's good reason to believe that year 2 under STrickland could make a little bit of noise. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect an appearance in Hoover and in a Regional somewhere. Wouldn't expect anything beyond that, but just being consistently tough would be nice.

The Strickland hire seemed so promising but there is little to no excitement in Athens surrounding the baseball program.

I was looking at our roster and noticed all but one guy is from Georgia. That's good news considering we need to buckle down on Cobb and South Georgia high schools. However UGA wasnt even close to the Top 40 in recruiting this past year, yet 12 other SEC teams (including Kentucky, Missouri and Auburn) all ranked top 40.
How the hell is that possible?

I get more excited about our spring sports than football. Bc at least we are more likely to win a natty
Our tennis programs are always great. Gym Dogs are fun to watch. Softball is more enjoyable than baseball.

Only thing I can think of is that some of the better guys we had committed ended up getting drafted and signing with a team. That's just a guess, I'm really not sure, I do know that some of the guys were drafted but decided to come here anyway.

Also true. The two biggest spring sporting events at UGA seem to be the masters and the spring game. Everything else is just gravy, including braves baseball

It's a little premature for anyone to be down on the Stricklin hire.

No reason UGA baseball shouldn't get some top players every year with Perfect Game opening that huge complex south of Cartersville. I heard the Braves have a connection with it. 1,000s of kids come thru throughout the year playing in tournaments. Cobb is a hotbed for HS baseball. Look at what Kennesaw State and GA Southern did last year. They are obviously "getting it". The palace it built to scout talent and you don't have to go far to find it.

Given Stricklin's ties to Cobb Basball, I'm sure he'll be working that pipeline. This Foley renovation was a big part of recruiting. The old locker room was pretty worse for wear.
Really want to see us expand, though. Integrate the old Kudzu Hill area with the rest of the stadium and expand the stands down the left field line.

Up until the 2008 and 2009 seasons (before we dropped off) Foley sold out consistently. You couldn't get tickets to big conference series like LSU and UF for weeks in advance. There's a demand for good baseball (especially since the Braves are mailing it in the next couple of seasons) so if we can start winning like we used to, I'd expect to see the big crowds return.

Ah ok...I guess I timed college poorly. I didn't grow up close enough to Athens to justify making the trip for anything other than football games.

Bump because all the basketball threads are giving me depression.
Does anyone know when they'll finalize the schedule? I checked Georgiadogs.com and they've only posted a few games.
